Our Story

Two craftsmen.

Twenty-five years of gardens.

D&S started where it still operates today — in Hunslet, LS10. The "D" is Dean Haupt, the "S" is Sean. We met as young lads on the tools and never stopped working together. Twenty-five years later, we're still answering our own phone, still pulling up in the same van, still standing behind every panel, post and plant.

Our bread and butter is fencing — feather-edge, close-board, picket, concrete-post systems and the unglamorous but essential job of replacing storm-snapped panels in February. Around that we build decks, lay block paving, clear overgrown plots, trim hedges, fell awkward trees and turn tired back gardens into spaces families actually want to sit in.

What you don't get with D&S: subcontracted strangers, "from £x" pricing that triples on the day, or radio silence after the deposit. What you do get: Dean or Sean on the WhatsApp, a written quote, a tidy site and a finished job we'd put our names on — because we do, on every panel.

Garden Landscaping

Full back-garden makeovers. Lawns, beds, borders, edging, turf and topsoil. We'll sketch it on paper, price it honestly, and turn it round in days not months.

Garden Clearance

Overgrown plots, end-of-tenancy clears, post-build clean-ups. Brambles, weeds, rubbish, old sheds — the lot loaded into the van and gone the same day.

Paving & Driveways

Block paving, slabs, Indian sandstone, gravel drives. Properly excavated, sub-based and edged so it stays flat. Patios that drain and drives that don't sink.

Hedge Trimming

Annual trims, hard reductions and full hedge removals. Conifer, laurel, beech, privet — cut tidy, sides squared up, all clippings taken away.

Tree Surgery

Crown reductions, dead-wooding, sectional fells and stump grinding. Insured and equipped — including the awkward overhanging-the-neighbour jobs.

We also fit sheds, lay turf, top up topsoil and handle general garden maintenance. Just ask.

The bits everyone always asks.

No — quotes are free. Dean or Sean will come round at a time that suits, walk the job with you, and send a written quote (with materials and labour spelled out) usually within 48 hours. There's no obligation and no callout charge.

Small fencing repairs and clearance jobs we can often slot in within a week. Bigger landscaping projects sit 2–4 weeks out depending on the time of year — spring and early summer are our busiest. Storm-damage and emergency fence repairs always go to the front of the queue.

Fencing is our specialty — we put up more fence than anything else, and the bulk of our reviews are from fencing jobs. But because we work in gardens day-in, day-out, we naturally do everything that surrounds the fence: decks, paths, paving, hedges, trees, full landscaping. Most clients book us for one and end up booking us for the next.

We're based in Hunslet (LS10) and our core patch is South Leeds — Belle Isle, Middleton, Beeston, Holbeck, Cottingley, Morley, Rothwell, Stourton, Wortley, Armley. We also regularly work in Garforth, Pudsey, Headingley, Roundhay and Leeds City Centre. If you're not sure, drop us a postcode and we'll let you know.

One of us is on every job, every day. We don't subcontract our work out to strangers. On bigger landscaping or paving projects we'll occasionally bring in a trusted second pair of hands, but Dean or Sean is always there running the site. The face that quotes you is the face that finishes the work.

All waste — old fence panels, hedge cuttings, broken slabs, garden rubbish — leaves with us in the van. We use registered tips so it's disposed of legally. Big clearance jobs we'll occasionally bring a skip in if it's needed; we'll always factor that into the quote up front so there are no surprises.
